What to tell us when you ring
In a city of towers, a street name rarely finds a door on its own: one avenue can hold a long row of buildings. These five things get the right door opened soonest.
- The building's name and the street its entrance is on.
- The block or staircase, the floor and the door (or the room number).
- Whether you can reach the landing, or only the street door.
- What the lock does: the key turns and nothing happens, it will not go in, it snapped.
- A photo of the lock on WhatsApp, if your phone is with you.
If a child, a vulnerable person or a lit cooker is behind the door, ring 112 before anyone else.

The door shut behind you
Keys on the kitchen table, you on the landing. The most common call of all, and usually the quickest to solve without damage.

Bag gone, keys with it
Thefts far outnumber burglaries here: 811 recorded in the first half of 2025, against 32 home burglaries. If your keys went with a bag, the lock should change too.

A key snapped in the cylinder
Often a worn key in a stiff lock. The broken piece is drawn out, and the cylinder is replaced only if it is damaged.

The key turns, the door stays shut
A cam or a multipoint gearbox has failed inside the door. It needs opening and then a repair, not more force on the key.

Why no website can tell you "ten minutes"
Benidorm has 77,221 people on its register and, in summer, more than four times that many in town. The time it takes to reach you depends on where we are when you ring, the hour, and the street you are on. That is why you are given an estimate for your address on the phone, and never a figure on a web page.
Some streets add minutes whatever the hour. The old town, the Calvari neighbourhood and part of Avenida Armada Española are restricted to authorised vehicles, and the promenades of Levante and Poniente sit inside the low emission zone watched by access cameras. There the last stretch is on foot, which is why a meeting point helps.
Being reachable at any hour is a promise we can keep. Arriving in a fixed number of minutes is not, so we do not make it.

What people ask from outside the door
Does it cost more at three in the morning?
You are told the price for that address at that hour before anyone sets off, so there is nothing to discover afterwards. If it does not suit you, you can say no at no cost.
There is a child, or somebody unwell, on the other side of the door.
Ring 112 first. The emergency services can force a door far faster than any locksmith can reach you, and they will. Call us afterwards to make that door lock again.
My passport is inside the flat. How do I prove I am staying there?
A booking confirmation on your phone, the host or the reception desk confirming it by phone, or a neighbour or concierge who knows you. Once the door is open, the document inside settles it.
Half the key is still in the lock. Should I try to get it out?
Leave it. Pushing at the broken end with the other half, or with tweezers, usually drives it deeper into the pins. A snapped key is normally drawn out whole, and often the cylinder can stay.
Can you get into the old town at night?
Yes. Vehicle access there is restricted, so the van stops at the edge and the tools come in on foot. Tell us the nearest corner or square and we will meet you there.
